For E&P companies, digitizing well log data is not just a technological upgrade but a strategic imperative. Well log information unlocks a multitude of benefits, from operational efficiencies to advanced analytical capabilities, driving better business outcomes and positioning companies for future success.
The North Sea Transition Authority (NSTA) has been calling on all UK operators to give more attention to the reporting of their well data. By providing the NSTA with comprehensive and complete data sets, operators can effectively manage the end-of-life stages of their wells, contributing to the responsible management of the UK’s oil and gas resources.
As we navigate a rapidly evolving energy landscape, it’s important to ensure all available well information is accessible. Not only does this ensure regulatory compliance, but it supports the goals of maximizing resource recovery, driving innovation, and facilitating the energy transition, all of which are essential for the long-term sustainability and competitiveness of the UKCS.
Staying compliant, meeting deadlines, and supporting the efforts of the energy transition has never been more crucial. As the NSTA sharpens its focus on data reporting requirements, the introduction of new responsibilities make it essential for operators to submit well data accurately and on time. Delays or inaccuracies can lead to significant setbacks. This is where Ovation helps. We can streamline your NDR submissions, ensuring your seismic and well data is accurate, compliant, and ready for use, so you can meet every deadline with confidence and not have to worry about potential fines.
Simplify your compliance process by relying on Ovation. With more than 30 years of specialized experience in helping operators manage and digitize NDRs, we ensure full compliance with regulatory requirements. Our deep expertise in NDR management means your records are not only organized, but fully compliant—backed by decades of industry knowledge. Our indexing solutions help you identify, organize, and protect your data, making it easy to manage.
With the rise of Carbon Capture Storage developments across the UKCS, it is imperative that companies help share as much knowledge as possible when it comes to the condition of abandoned wells. Wells that have not been satisfactorily decommissioned could pose a risk to the integrity of planned carbon stores, leading to potential non containment. Properly managed well data is foundational to the success and integrity of future carbon capture storage projects.
In order to reduce emissions, safeguard the industry’s future, and sustain production, it is becoming more and more important to have comprehensive and complete data sets of wells that are no longer economically viable or have reached the end of their productive life and need to be decommissioned. To relinquish wells, operators must have the right system of record ensuring that all relevant data from the well's lifecycle is properly archived and reported to regulatory authorities like the NSTA.
Our proprietary technology repairs logs where digital data is missing or incorrect. Our well log digitizing services include high quality scanning and image editing services. We can correct, rectify and repair warped and stretched logs. We also accommodate all well log input formats, including but not limited to TIFF, JPEG, and BMP images. Our expertise encompasses the processing of a diverse range of data formats such as LIS, DLIS, LAS, and ASCII files, offering flexible solutions tailored to your needs.
Ensure valuable data is preserved in a secure and durable format, protected from risks. Ovation has worked on major well log digitization projects for various companies: The British Geological Survey, OMV Petrom, Wintershall Dea, Shell International, Kuwait Oil Company, just to name a few.
Ovation’s well log services project for BGS involved the sorting of images, selection of data and digitization of logs from around 250 wells. All data for each well was supplied as images. We created an index, identified duplicate data and produced an inventory of what needed to be digitized. We digitized more than 2.5 million curve-metres.
We have an ongoing contract with OMV Petrom to provide well log digitization. Over the years we have digitized approximately 20 million curve-metres of logs from a variety of fields and including logs recorded as long ago as the 1950s. We provide compositing services for exploration projects, combining data of all vintages. Ovation was strategic in helping resolve issues inherent in combining very old data to use with modern software.
Ovation have completed various well log services projects for Wintershall that involved preparation of data from 1,100 wells for uploading in to OpenWorks. This included scanning of well logs and well log reports, identifying where digital well log data was missing and digitizing curves from scanned images.
Ovation has been working with Shell for more than 25 years to provide well log digitization services to support their global operations. In one month, we have digitized over 750,000 curve-metres.
Ovation has a long term relationship with Neftex that spans more than 20 years to provide well log digitizing services. We have digitized more than 15 million curve-metres from wells all over the world. All data that has been digitized was taken from publications with limited scaling and curve labelling information.
Ovation completed a large digitizing project for Petrofrac that included splicing, compositing and populating log header information. This project consisted of more than 200 wells and over 2.5 million curve-metres.
